OKAHSA offically
becomes LeadingAge Oklahoma
In a recent vote, the members of the Oklahoma Association of
Homes and Services for the Aging (OKAHSA) approved
LeadingAge Oklahoma as the association’s new name effective
March 8, 2011. The results showed clearly that members want
their association to be known by this distinct, strong voice
for not-for-profit organizations.
LeadingAge Oklahoma represents our members’ expectations of
this association to be forward-thinking in shaping the
future of the long term care profession and to expand the
world of possibilities for aging. We should lead in
innovative practices that transform how we care for our
aging population, cutting-edge initiatives to develop
services that meet the needs and preferences of older adults
and advocacy efforts to advance the interests of the aging
consumer.
LeadingAge is the recognition of the work our members do to
design new programs for wellness, personal enrichment, and
intergenerational connections. It acknowledges adoption of
technology solutions and culture change. It encourages new
kinds of community partnerships to redefine the traditional
role of provider and consumer partnerships to better meet
the needs of those who wish to age in place. And, it
celebrates member engagement with research, policy making
and leadership development.
LeadingAge Oklahoma is our future and acknowledges the
leadership path our members have walked together since our
beginning. It represents our joint promise to inspire,
serve and advocate for older
adults across the state of Oklahoma. The transition to
LeadingAge Oklahoma is expected to be completed by year-end
2011.
"Experience
the Not-for-Profit Difference"
The not-for-profit approach to care places emphasis on providing an atmosphere of fellowship and caring; on meeting the social, physical, and spiritual needs of the individual; and on helping older persons achieve the dignity and quality of life that they deserve in their retirement years. The emphasis on caring and on placing the need of the individual above all else has become the hallmark of not-for-profit homes and services for the aging.
Advocates for the Aging
Through face-to-face advocacy
and grassroots campaigns, we educate policy makers on
health, housing assisted living, home and community-based
services and care.
Our advocacy agenda is clear: to
advance policy that ensures quality services for seniors,
encourages advance planning, integrates delivery systems and
eliminates red tape for the people we serve.
